The Writing Workshop of Glamorous Refusal with Anastacia Renee

Join Seattle Civic Poet Anastacia Renee for a writing workshop of Glamorous Refusal at LOVECITYLOVE!

We'll explore NO-ing from our bodies through chants, yelling and physical body movement and do a series of writing prompts based on the idea that NO is verb and NO-ing is a birthright. You'll leave with a solid draft of poetry or prose and a NO-ing you'll carry with you for always. All attendees will get a copy of Issue 01 of The Magazine of Glamorous Refusal.

*Dress comfortably. This workshop is for both emerging and seasoned writers.

*Bring a yoga mat or a pillow.

*Students are free and no one will be turned away for lack of funds (RSVP still required - contact us at glamorousrefusal @ gmail or on Instagram to coordinate).

The Screenings of Glamorous Refusal

The Worlds of Ursula K. Le Guin at the Northwest Film Forum

At The Magazine of Glamorous Refusal, we celebrate the courage it takes to set aside social norms and listen to your own voice. Ursula K. Le Guin was a pioneer of glamorous refusal, writing science fiction in a man's world, championing non-violent anarchism, and pushing feminism forward. Le Guin used her art to challenge the dominant power dynamic and change the conversation. She deliberately made the majority of her characters people of color and created matriarchal worlds led by strong women. If refusal is an essential and esteemed ingredient to a progressive world, Le Guin shows us art can be its vehicle. In her words, "any human power can be resisted and changed by human beings. Resistance and change often begin in art.” We are honored to provide an introduction at the screenings on January 30th & 31st and will have copies of Issue 01 available!

Get your tickets before they sell out.

My body, my choice; my movement, my revolution.

No experience necessary - come and embody your most fabulous, unapologetic self.

Sent You a Postcard: The Travel Photography of Glamorous Refusal

We live in a mad world. Madness fueled by conflict, madness sculpted by control. A world defined by taking sides, shackled by "us-versus-thems".

Sent you a postcard is a series of photographs captured over a year-long quest for understanding, empathy, and acceptance. This is the journey of a woman who pushed back against the "don't-go-theres" to document places less seen, to tell stories less heard. It is the bricolage of isolated moments to remind us of the human connection: that we're all strangers, that we're all the same.

The Yoga of Glamorous Refusal

Oftentimes in yoga, a practice intended to look inward, we do the opposite. We look around the room wondering how everyone else is doing the pose, and how everyone else looks. This class says no to that. With the lights dimmed, there will be guided instruction but the purpose is to look inward and say yes to your own body and your own pace. The Yoga of Glamorous Refusal will be a class based on doing what feels good. Say no to looking left and right, yes to your internal cues, and yes to yourself!
